We are living in unprecedented times. We are all doing whatever we can to help ourselves and to support one another. Creative expression and connection with others are essential elements of our personal and communal well-being. Posting inspiring photographs is an innovative way to explore the diversity and beauty of our shared world, through an alternate and artistic lens. These photos appeal to our appreciation of details, colour, texture and perspective.

Not surprisingly, one of my early inspirations when I began photographing was Ansel Adams. This quote is as relevant today as it was when I was 15 years old getting to know my precious Pentax 35 mm camera, imagining I was Ansel, in the wilds of North America with a giant field camera. “To photograph truthfully and effectively is to see beneath the surfaces and record the qualities of nature and humanity which live or are latent in all things”. ―Ansel Adams

I studiously avoid marking my images by portraying familiar spaces or landmarks, rather I prefer the abstract, it expresses so much more than where I was or what I saw, it asks the viewer to participate in the exploration of what meaning can be found in an ordinary place and thing.

My other great influence was Georgia O’Keeffe. I marveled at her ability to create art out of simple object imagery, and to be fearless in presenting it to a public not always willing to receive it as art or from a Woman. She wrote, and this sustained me during some of my darkest days, especially when I had no idea how I would survive and could not believe that my pictures were worth sharing or of interest to anyone. “I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life ‒ and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do”. ―Georgia O’Keeffe.
